How we calculate this

Formula: Upfront cost = sum of the selected devices' typical retail prices. Savings = sum of each device's modelled annual energy reduction. Payback = cost ÷ savings (omitted when a device saves no energy).

Assumptions:

  • 2026 typical retail prices, before sales or rebates.
  • Savings assume the device is actually configured and used (a thermostat only saves if a setback schedule runs).
  • Devices are additive; in reality overlapping devices can reduce each other's marginal saving.

Limits: Safety devices such as leak sensors are listed with no energy saving on purpose — they earn their place on risk, not payback. Actual savings depend heavily on your habits.
