Who writes TrimWatt

What we are

TrimWatt is a small, independent publication about home energy. Our guides are researched and written by the TrimWatt Editorial Team, using published data from the U.S. Department of Energy, Energy Star, the EIA, and NREL, combined with current retail pricing. Research is AI-assisted and human-edited: a person checks every figure against the cited source before it is published.

What we are not

We are not licensed HVAC engineers, electricians, or financial advisers, and we don't pretend to be. We do not run a test lab. We have not installed, metered, or bench-tested the products and systems we write about — so you will never see us claim we did. Where a guide relies on modelling rather than measurement, we say so on the page.

Independent review

Our long-term goal is to have every guide reviewed by a qualified professional in the relevant trade. That programme has not started yet, so guides currently display “Not yet independently reviewed” in the byline. When a guide is reviewed, the reviewer's name appears there instead — we won't list a reviewer who didn't review it.

How to hold us to it

Every guide shows when its figures were last verified, lists its sources with the date we consulted them, and states its assumptions and limitations. If a number looks wrong, tell us — see our editorial policy for how we handle corrections, and our methodology for how the numbers are produced.
